2008 Italian Week Concert & Film World Premiere of: Italian Film images and music by Zumpa 2.30pm Sunday 25 May $8 Adults, $4 Youth, Children U12 free Click here for the poster, PDF version The Illawarra Folk Club, building on the past success of the ‘Dall’ Italia All Australia’ silent film with live music and the Italian Lunch at the Illawarra Folk Festival, is pleased to bring the joy of Italy to you once more with MARMELLATA. Marmellata has two meanings– the first is 'jam' or 'marmalade' and the second comes from the Neapolitan dialect in which it means 'mix-up’ which seems an appropriate description of this eclectic combination of film, images and music. A musical performance of Italian folk music will be combined with film footages of tourist style scenery of four regions of Italy - Veneto (Venice), Lazio (Rome), Sicilia and Sardinia combined with humorous Italian film clips from Toto, Robero Begnini (Life is Beautiful), Ciccio Ingrassia and Franco Franchi. The music will be provided by Zumpa , a collection of Illawarra folk musicians led by veteran Italian film accompaniest, David De Santi on piano accordion. Other musicians include Tania (piano) and Samuel De Santi (percussion), Mark Holder-Keeping (saxophone and clarinet), Ann Lehmann (bouzouki), James Twyford (bass), Johnny Spillane (whistles), Miffy Ryan (violin) and percussion by - Perla Fefey, Marianthe Loucataris, Matt Bourne and Pedro Altuna,. It is a huge sound and gives new energy to the traditional tarantellas, songs and tunes from Italy. MARMELLATA will be the opening event for 2008 Italian Week in the Illawarra organised by Illawarra Association of Teachers of Italian (IATI). The footage is from a film called Solo Per Noi and was provided by Comitato Degli Italiani All'estero (Comittee of Italians Abroad), a representative body for ex-patriot Italian communities. The objectives of COM.IT.ES are to identify and support social development and the promotion of Italian language and culture. Illawarra Folk Club would also like to thank ItSoWel (Italian Social Welfare Organisation of Wollongong) another major partner in this exciting project. ItSoWel is, a non profit organisation committed to the delivery of services for the frail, disabled, and those in social need with an emphasis on the promotion of Italian culture, language and heritage. The event will form part of IATI’s 2008 Italian Week celebrations in the Illawarra. This will be the second partnership between the Illawarra Folk Club and IATI. This will be the world premiere of this special performance. Further information David De Santi, desanti@illawarrafolkclub.org.au 409 57 1788 | |||||||||||||||
