The Illawarra Folk Club Inc. is pleased to present the third Jamberoo Valley Folk Music School for fiddlers to be held in the second week of the NSW School holidays from Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th October 2005 in the Jamberoo Youth Hall, one of the previous venues for the Illawarra Folk Festival.
Well-known Australian folk fiddler and tutor Jane Brownlee with able assistance from David De Santi will lead the classes over the three days looking at technique, styles and of course lots of tunes. There will be opportunities for ensemble playing and for sessions.
The tuition cost will only be $30 per day and include morning and afternoon tea. Students are to arrange their own accommodation, transport and other meals.
Each night there will be a chance for an informal session culminating with a Final Concert on Saturday evening. Students are also welcome to come on Wednesday to play, dance or simply enjoy the Wongawilli Bush Dance.
Students booking for 3 days will also receive a free ticket to Folk in the Foothills (one day folk festival) at the Jamberoo Valley Lodge on Sunday 9 October.

About the School
The Illawarra Folk Club Inc has been presenting the Illawarra Folk Festival at Jamberoo since 1985 and has provided much enjoyment to performers and audiences. The Jamberoo Valley Folk Music School was first held in July 2003 and is a new iniatitive to further nurture and develop folk musicians.The School is a great opportunity to learn about folk music with one of Australia's premier folk fiddlers Jane Brownlee. In addition to classes there will sessions, extra music focus sessions, concerts, dances and a good social time while developing musical skills.
How it Works
The School is scheduled in the 2nd week of the October NSW school holidays in the Jamberoo Youth Hall situated next to the main oval in Jamberoo. Jamberoo is 10km inland from the seaside town of Kiama on the South Coast of NSW.
Students will arrive and register from Thursday morning. Classes begin at 10am and finish around 5pm with breaks for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Lunch is to be arranged by the students. There is a supermarket, Bowling Club, Pastry Shop or the Jamberoo Pub within 200 metres of the Youth Hall.
The School will finish with a Finale Concert on Saturday night at the Youth Hall from 8pm. A BBQ dinner is available for the Saturday evening for $15. Book when registering for classes.
A ticket to the following day's Folk in the Foothills event at the Lodge is also included for anyone booking the 3 days and there will performances by the students during the Sunday.
There will be additional opportunities to learn tunes, songs and musical styles in a more social atmosphere in the afternoons.
The Tutors - Jane Brownlee (Thursday/Friday) and Adrian Barker (Saturday)

Jane Brownlee is a multi-instrumentalist being equally at home on a violin, viola or piano and has a classical training. She has a deep passion for playing traditional music of Australia in her energetic mode. She is the co-current holder of the National Library of Australia / National Folk Festival Fellowship researching and performing traditional Australian song and music.
Jane has coordinated the Folk Music School since its inception.

Adrian Barker will be teaching on the Saturday. Ado is one of the most respected Irish fiddle players in Australia. He recently spent fifteen months in Ireland, where he was able to hear and play with some of Ireland's best traditional musicians. Over the years, fiddle players such as Tommy Peoples, Tony Linnane and Declan Folan have been among the influences on Ado's playing. At the moment, Ado's teaching some fiddle in Melbourne, battling through an honors year in Sociology at La Trobe University, and plotting the overthrow of the Howard government. Ado is one of the most respected Irish fiddle players in Australia. He recently spent fifteen months in Ireland, where he was able to hear and play with some of Ireland's best traditional musicians. Over the years, fiddle players such as Tommy Peoples, Tony Linnane and Declan Folan have been among the influences on Ado's playing. Jane will be assisted by David De Santi, accordion player with the Wongawilli Band, who has a vast repertoire of tunes especially for traditional dance.
